Welcome to the Jayhawk Tennis Academy

It began with a mission to bring a high level of performance tennis program to Lawrence, KS.

WHAT ARE WE ABOUT:

Jayhawk Tennis Academy is comprehensive high performance program for junior players wishing to invest more time and effort into their tennis.  Whether they are 7 or 17, our goal is to help a junior tennis player become their best.  Our Jayhawk Tennis Academy offers players an opportunity to reach the highest levels of the game, competing in USTA, UTR, and ITF events in and around the country.

WHAT WE STRIVE TO DO

Jayhawk Tennis Academy coaches strive to provide a total experience from technical training, mental skills, and strategic skills in singles and doubles to team building, flexible scheduling and pure court time.  Many of our groups have overlapping drill times, which we use to offer a wider variety of hitting partners for all ages, as well as to create a more cohesive, mentor-based program. And, since no two players are the same, we offer many training options for players to attend as they work towards their individual goals.

We are a USTA Safe Play™ organization, intent on providing a safe and respectful environment. We want all players to understand what that means, even in difficult competitive situations.

WHAT WE WANT PLAYERS TO EXPERIENCE

For every player, we want them to come away with an even greater sense of their tennis capabilities and skills, confidence in what they are doing when they compete, and camaraderie with other players.

WHAT WE OFFER

Full Time Academy

Top tennis players train technically, physically, and mentally, and our Full Time Academy program covers all of those needs. We address technical and strategic needs, while also incorporating daily fitness and mental skills work into our regimen.

During the school year, we offer afternoon programming on Monday-Thursday from 3/4-7pm and Friday as needed. We also offer schedules to suit the needs of our home school or flexible private/public school players.  Likewise, players coming in from other areas of the country may have individualized training schedules created, often on weekends in order to fit their school requirements.

Players wishing to join Full Time Academy need approval. Contact Coach Jared Ward at jward@jayhawktennis.com

High Performance

Our High Performance segment of the Academy is geared towards players competing at the high school and L4-6 USTA events. Often combining with players from our Full-time Academy, the majority of these players focus on the strategic needs of match play, with most of the technical work coming in separately scheduled individual lessons. They also join will the full-time group in fitness and/or mental skills sessions.

Because most of our players have traditional school schedules, we offer one of the most comprehensive after school High Performance program in the Missouri Valley. This group meets Monday-Thursday from 3/4 – 7pm, often combining with players from our Full-time Academy.

Players signed up for High Performance will be approved by Coach Jared.

Early & Beginning High Performance

Our young players are one of the major focal points of Jayhawk Tennis Academy, and we strive to offer them as much court time as other elite juniors around the country. This group of players receive age/level appropriate focus during technical or strategical instruction.

Being a major focal point of our Academy, we consider each player who is just entering into the Early or Beginning High Performance group and work with parents to determine the best fit for their player(s).

Beginning High Performance is for our youngest players beginning to play in tournaments. Our goal for this smaller group is to further develop good technique and consistency with a higher level of footwork and intensity.  We strive to create an atmosphere that young tournament players can learn and thrive in, as well as educate players and parents on the tournament environment and how their child can best grow within it. For Ages 6-9

Early High Performance is also starting to compete and further their skills in technique, consistency and footwork.  Creating an atmosphere to help players learn and thrive as well as understand the tournament environment is key for the players and their parents. For ages 8-11

Players signed up for Early High Performance or High Performance will be approved by Coach Jared or Coach Christy.
For more information, contact Christy at cward@jayhawktennis.com or Jared at jward@jayhawktennis.com.
